Mark William Hughes May 19, 1953 – February 4, 2024

Mark W. Hughes, 70, of Bloomington passed away comfortably at IU Health Bloomington Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Mark was born in Bloomington, Indiana to William (Bill) and Anale (Owens) Hughes. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1971. He worked a number of jobs after graduating and ended his career in 2013 at Indiana University after 27 years in the Physical Plant.

On December 2, 1983, he married the love of his life Catherine (Cathy) Hughes. They were married for forty wonderful years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Anale Hughes, grandparents Lottie and Harvey Owens and Etta Mae and Audney Hughes. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cathy; two children Cassie Axsom, Nick (Tammy) Howell; four grandchildren Brandon (Lacie) Axsom, Ryan (Kaylee Hoppel) Axsom, Cierra (Cody) Smith, and Jordan (Austin) Stivers; four great-grandchildren Brayden Axsom, Ryatt Axsom, Everly Stivers, and Zaylee Smith; brother Tim (Lynne) Hughes, and sister Beth Deckard and several nieces and nephews.

He was loved by many. His family and friends will cherish and reflect on the memories they've made with him forever.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the Stinesville Lions Club located at 8060 N Stinesville Road, Stinesville IN 47464.
