Michael Del Brooks, 41, died late Monday, May 13, 2019 after being struck by a hit-and-run driver northeast of Bloomington. Known to all as Mikey, he was returning home from work by bicycle.

Mikey was born in Richmond, Indiana to Charles and Ginny Brooks.

Mikey's commitment to cycling grew from his desire to exit the fossil fuel economy, a cause he remained dedicated to throughout his life. Adventurous and passionate, Mikey lived all over the country before deciding to make Bloomington his home.

Mikey's love of the earth and children were undeniable. With a smile on his face and a child in his arms, Mikey affected and inspired everyone he met. A passionate learner and creator, Mikey was eager to share his insights with others and hear their perspectives. He used these ideas to design communities that were environmentally conscious, with a system of respect, allowing all members to contribute their voices. He was a blessing and an example to all he met. Visionary. Iconic. Legendary. He took any challenge. He challenged assumptions. He opened minds.

He is survived by his mother and four children, Simon Brooks, Niko (Eve) Newby Brooks, Judah Newby Brooks, and Robin Brooks Boulding. Also surviving are his partner Kit Boulding; siblings, Rick Brooks, Nicki Combs, and Vicki Martin; and former partners, Mia Beach and Nic Newby. Mikey was happiest foraging and planting and is also survived by numerous blueberry bushes and hazelnut and paw paw trees.
