Bloomington - Wordsmith, bird nerd, and international man of intrigue Tim Hommey left this earth on August 24, 2021 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital following a brief but intense illness. He was born in Chesterton, Indiana to Hannah Grace and Robert Hommey, who predeceased him. He is survived by his awesome son, Gus Hommey; and partner in parenting, lifelong friend, and former wife, Catherine Dyar of Bloomington; sisters,, Karen (Larry) Putchaven of Chesterton and Cheryl (Scott) Taylor of Valparaiso; brothers, Bob (Kathy) Hommey of Chesterton and Glenn Hommey of Las Vegas; several nieces and nephews who were more like cousins; and countless friends and admirers.

Tim was the funniest guy you've ever met, and multiple people admit to peeing their pants when he got on a roll. He was also one of those annoying people who could pick up any instrument and instantly play a song. He was a particularly good drummer and bass player, and his bands included The Nevermores, The Billy Boys, The Fuelies, The Cuban Jerks, Dragstrip, The French Licks, and Midnight Butcher. He made us all proud when he finished his undergraduate degree at IU in his mid-thirties, and went on to earn a master's degree in History and Library and Information Science.

Above all, Tim was a great dad. He loved Gus more than anything and they had a symbiotic relationship. They shared many adventures, including a family trip to Paris in 2019. Tim didn't want to go so soon, but no one else could have been Gus's dad and we are grateful for the time we had.

We like to think that wherever he is, he is watching his beloved Hoosiers, jamming with Kent Berglund and Sophia Travis, and flirting with hot TV moms like Florence Henderson.

Honor Tim by voting, making up a punny band or restaurant name, and by being creative and kind. The family extends special thanks to the angels on Tim's medical team.

A celebration of life will be held in Bloomington, 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday October 9, 2021 in the back room of Crazy Horse Tavern on Kirkwood, 214 Kirkwood Ave., Bloomington, IN.
